🧾 Description
This article describes how to configure a Datalogic PowerScan PM9600 scanner with a BC9680 Ethernet Base to communicate with a PC or server using a TCP Client connection. In this configuration, the BC9680 initiates the connection to a host application that is listening for incoming TCP connections.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, ensure you have:
PowerScan PM9600 scanner paired with a BC9680 Ethernet Base
Datalogic Aladdin software installed
Network connectivity between the BC9680 and the target PC/server
The IP address of the target PC/server
The TCP port number that the application is listening on
A TCP listener utility for testing (for example, Hercules)
🛠️ Resolution Steps
Open the Ethernet Module Configuration in Aladdin
Connect to the BC9680 base using Datalogic Aladdin and navigate to the Ethernet communication settings.
Configure TCP Socket Settings
Modify the following parameters:
Connection Role of TCP/IP Channel
Set the value to: Client
This allows the BC9680 to initiate a connection to the specified server.
Socket Port Used for Data
Set this value to Socket port you will be using (default is 51000):
Socket Server Address
Set this value to IP address of the target server/application
Save and Apply Configuration
Apply the configuration changes in Aladdin.
Write the settings to the BC9680 base.
Reboot the base if required.
Testing the Connection
After configuring the Ethernet base:
Start a TCP listener application on the target PC or server.
Configure the listener to use the same TCP port specified in the BC9680 settings.
Verify that the BC9680 successfully establishes a connection to the listener.
Recommended Test Tools
Hercules Setup Utility or any TCP/IP listener or socket monitoring application
Once connected:
Scan a barcode with the PM9600.
Confirm that the scanned data appears in the TCP listener application.
If data is received, the client connection has been configured successfully.
Troubleshooting:
No Connection Established
Verify:
The server application is running and actively listening on the configured TCP port.
The IP address entered in the BC9680 matches the target server.
Network connectivity exists between the BC9680 and the server.
Firewalls are not blocking the configured TCP port.
Connected But No Data Received
Verify:
The correct port is configured on both the listener and the BC9680.
The scanner is properly paired with the BC9680 base.
Scanned data is being transmitted through the expected interface profile.
