This article provides guidance on how customers can modify the parameter that facilitates the replacement of characters. It is important for customers working with keyboard applications (USB-KBD interface) that receive GS1 labels to be aware of the location of the non-printable character [GS]. The most efficient method is to replace it with a printable character.
This procedure can also be used to replace any other necessary characters, with up to eight possible replacements. For instance, if you wish to replace the '/' character with '@', this modification will be applied to all family codes containing '/'.
🛠️ Resolution Steps
STEP 1 - Please select the method for obtaining your configuration by checking the "Aladdin Offline Configuration" (I will provide the link) or "Aladdin Force Device Connection" (I will provide the link) videos on our YouTube channel. In this example, we will use Force Device Connection to show the reading of the GS1 label before and after applying the configuration.
STEP 2 – When inside the configuration, go to the Data Format section and click on the Terminal tool at the right-hand side of the screen. Then select the 'Show non-printable characters' option. If you look closely at your GS1 code, you will see the [GS] character present on it:
STEP 3 – Please click on 'Character Conversion' in order to open the character browser. Here, you will first need to select the [GS] character, followed by the [|] character (the first will be the character to replace and the second will be the new one). Once you have done this, please save the changes. Please click on 'Write Configuration'. If you review your GS1 code, you will see that the changes have been applied and that the configuration can be closed.
