This article outlines the recommended process for updating Datalogic Memor 10 (M10), Memor 20 (M20), and Skorpio X5 (SX5) devices from early firmware versions (e.g., A9/1.03) to Android 11 (A11/3.14). Due to changes in Android’s file system and Device Owner support, updates must be performed in intermediate steps.
Environment
Devices: Memor 10, Memor 20, Skorpio X5
Starting Firmware: Android 9 (A9/1.03 or earlier)
Target Firmware: Android 11 (A11/3.14)
Tools:
Scan2Deploy (S2D) Studio v1.8.3
DXU (Datalogic XML Utility)
OTA ZIP firmware files
Important Notes
Devices with A9/1.03 do not support Device Owner mode in S2D Agent.
Device Owner support begins with S2D Agent v1.14, included in A9/1.05+.
Direct upgrade from A9/1.03 to A11 is not supported due to Android file system changes.
A factory reset is required for devices without Device Owner support to enable S2D provisioning.

Recommended Upgrade Path
Option 1: Manual OTA Update + S2D
Manually Update to A9/1.10:
Copy the A9/1.10 OTA ZIP file to the device’s /Downloads folder.
Use the System Update function on the device to install the update.
This should retain the existing configuration.
Upgrade to A11/3.14 via S2D:
Create a Firmware Action profile in S2D Studio v1.8.3.
Generate the QR code and scan it using the S2D Agent on the device.
The device will download and install A11/3.14.
Option 2: DXU-Based Update
Install and Launch DXU:
Download from: Datalogic DXU
Connect the device via Wi-Fi or USB.
If not auto-detected, add the device manually.
Upload A9/1.10 Firmware:
Use the Firmware Utility in DXU to upload the A9/1.10 OTA ZIP.
Confirm the update on the device.
Upload A11/3.14 Firmware:
Repeat the process with the A11/3.14 OTA ZIP.
If this fails, proceed with the S2D method below.
Use S2D for Final Upgrade:
Create a Firmware Action profile in S2D Studio.
Scan the QR code with the S2D Agent to complete the upgrade.
Option 3: Factory Reset + S2D
Factory Reset the Device:
This is required if the device does not support Device Owner mode.
On first boot, the “Hi There” screen will appear.
Scan S2D QR Code:
Generate a Firmware Action profile with the A9/1.10 update.
Scan the QR code at the “Hi There” screen to install the update.
Note: This will erase all existing configuration.
Upgrade to A11/3.14:
Create and scan a new Firmware Action profile for A11/3.14.
Apply Final Configuration:
Use S2D Studio to deploy the final configuration profile.
