To prevent glare make sure you device is installed at a 5 to 15 degree angle to the barcode this is the recommended angle for installation. If glare is coming from the railing you can try painting the railing black or putting black tape on the railing. If outside lighting like sunlight or very bright overhead lights are causing glare you may want to try blocking the light with a solid material like cardboard to prevent the glare.
