📌 Article Summary
Advanced Formatting it was designed to offer customer complete flexibility in changing the format of barcode data BEFORE transmitting it to the host system. This formatting will be performed when the barcode data meets certain criteria which you will define in the following procedure.
Up to 4 Advanced code management formats can be defined and saved in memory. For each format you must complete the entire configuration procedure.
🧾 Description
This article provides steps to help customer to use the different options of Advanced Formatting by using DL Aladdin, for example, concatenation codes, to split a barcode, to modify the output data, etc.
🛠️ Resolution Steps
STEP 1 - Select the Produt Family and then the specifc product model you want to get the Advanced Formatting configuration labels.
STEP 2 – Select Enable the general Advanced Formatting and select the No Match Result of the rules you are going to apply:
Clear data: if the rule will not match, no codes will be transmitted.
Transmit data using standard format: if the rule will not match, codes will be transmitted without any changes.
STEP 3 - Select the Match Conditions:
Enable Format 1 and set the Match Code Conditions like Code Type, Code Length, etc. By default, it will be applied to any code read.
Or if you know that the codes will always be from the same family, will always have same length and some fixed characters like in the next example:
A. Character Replacement: this feature inside Advanced Formatting is destinated to the customers that need to replace characters but only in a specific code like the example. On the contrary, Character Conversion parameter (Data Format) is applied to any code read.
To get it work it is necessary to define 1Field as Last Field.
B. Field Adjustment: It is the possibility to add/delete characters from the right/left of the code defined.
C. Split codes: in the next example we are going to split the code by Field Separator (-) adding a CR as terminator of Firs Field
Split codes: in the next example we are going to split the code by Field Length
STEP 3 – Concatenation: this feature allows the concatenation of two codes defined by code type and length. It is possible to set a timeout for the second code reading and to define code transmission if timeout expires. Since you can concatenate codes from different families, you must selec the Code ID character fo the resulting code. The Code ID character will be sent in the output message only if it is enabled according to the Code Identifier selection.
