🧾 Description
On Datalogic X4 mobile devices running Windows Embedded Compact 7 (WEC7), Internet Explorer includes a zoom feature that activates when the screen is tapped. This behavior can be disruptive in certain workflows. This article outlines how to disable the zoom functionality by modifying specific registry keys using the Datalogic X-Platform Utility (DXU).
Prerequisites
Before proceeding, ensure the following:
- The Datalogic X4 device is powered on and connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- You have access to the device’s IP address (tap the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar to view it).
- A Windows PC on the same network with DXU software installed.
- Download DXU: https://github.com/datalogic/dxu/releases
🛠️ Resolution Steps
1. Connect to the Device via DXU
- Launch the DXU software.
- Click “Add Device” in the bottom-left corner.
- Enter the full IP address of the scanner and click OK.
- Once connected, the device will appear in the upper-left panel. Click on it.
- Select “Configure This Device”.
2. Modify Registry Keys
- Click “Registry Data” twice (left panel and then right panel).
- Click “Add”.
- Set Root to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Enter the following:
- Key Path: \Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Gesture
- Value Name: GestureCapabilities
- Value: 00000710
- Click OK.
- Click “Add” again and enter the second registry key:
- Set Root to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Enter the following:
- Key Path: \Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\EditActivation
- Value Name: EnableEditActivation
- Value: 00000000
- Click OK.
3. Apply Configuration
- You should now see two registry entries listed.
- (Optional) Click “Save As” to save the configuration locally.
- Click “Apply Configuration”.
- In the popup window, click “Apply” again to confirm.
Note: If the scanner powers off during this process, simply power it back on, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and reapply the configuration.
Outcome
- The zoom feature in Internet Explorer will now be disabled, improving usability for workflows that require precise touch input without automatic zooming.
