🧾 Description
This article provides step-by-step instructions for upgrading the firmware on Datalogic X3 series devices using the Datalogic Firmware Utility (DFU) on a Windows host PC. This process requires a working connection between the host computer and the device via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC).
Environment
- Device: Datalogic X3 Series
Host OS: Windows
Tools Required: DFU (Datalogic Firmware Utility), ActiveSync or WMDC
Connection Type: USB with ActiveSync/WMDC
Prerequisites
- Firmware image file downloaded and saved on the host PC.
DFU installed on the host PC.
ActiveSync or WMDC connection established between the host PC and the Datalogic device.
🛠️ Resolution Steps
Launch DFU Utility
- On the host PC, go to:
Start > Programs > Datalogic > DFU > Datalogic Firmware Utility
Verify Communication Method
- In DFU, click Communications > WMDC/ActiveSync to ensure the correct connection method is selected.
Select Firmware File
- Click the Browse (...) button.
Navigate to the location where the firmware file is saved.
Select the appropriate firmware file and click Open.
Initiate Firmware Update
- Click Update.
DFU will compare the selected firmware with the current version on the device.
If compatible, the update process will begin.
Automatic Warm Reset
- Once the update is complete, DFU will automatically perform a warm reset on the device to finalize the firmware installation.
Additional Notes
Ensure the device remains connected and powered during the entire update process.
Do not interrupt the update once it has started.
