This article outlines the step-by-step process for manually updating the firmware on a Datalogic Rhino 10 using a USB flash drive. This method ensures the device is running the latest system image provided by Datalogic.
Requirements
- USB Flash Drive with at least 40 MB of free space
- Firmware Image File downloaded from Datalogic
- Windows PC for downloading and transferring the firmware

Preparation
- Format the USB Flash Drive
- Use FAT format (not FAT32 or NTFS).
Download and Transfer Firmware
- Download the firmware image from Datalogic.
- Unzip the downloaded file on your PC.
- Copy the unzipped NK.bin file to the USB flash drive.
Update Procedure
1. Clean Boot the Rhino 10
Navigate to:
- My Device > Windows
- Run the Cold Reboot applet.
- Press and hold the Up and Down keys on the front of the terminal until the Calibrate Touch Screen prompt appears.
- Complete the calibration to finish the clean boot process.
2. Disable Wireless Radio
Go to:
- Start Menu > Settings > Network & Dialup Connections
- Press and hold the SDCCF10G1 icon.
- Tap Disabled from the context menu.
- Close the window.
3. Insert USB Flash Drive
- Plug the USB flash drive into one of the Rhino 10’s USB ports.
4. Launch ImageUpdate Utility
- Navigate to:
- My Device > Windows
- Run the ImageUpdate utility.
5. Begin Update Process
- A popup box will appear. Click OK to proceed.
- The device will reboot and display a Datalogic logo, followed by a white screen with status messages. No user input is needed during this phase.
6. Select Firmware File
- When prompted, tap NK.bin to select the firmware format.
- Tap Browse to locate the firmware file.
7. Locate Firmware on USB
- Navigate to the Hard Disk directory (USB flash drive).
- Select the NK.bin firmware file.
- Tap OK to confirm.
Final Steps
- The update will begin automatically.
- Once complete, the device will reboot with the new firmware installed.
Additional Notes
- Ensure the device is fully charged before starting the update.
- Do not remove the USB drive or power off the device during the update.
