This article outlines the steps to upgrade firmware on Datalogic WEC7 devices using the Datalogic X-Platform Utility (DXU). Firmware upgrades are essential for applying system improvements, bug fixes, and ensuring compatibility with newer software.
Prerequisites
- DXU software installed on your PC.
- Latest firmware file downloaded from the device’s product page at Products - Mobile Computers - Datalogic Developer Portal
- A working Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) sync connection between the PC and the scanner.
- Firmware file unzipped and ready for use.

Firmware Upgrade Steps
1. Connect the Device
- Connect the scanner to the PC using a dock and USB cable.
- Ensure the device syncs successfully via WMDC.
2. Launch DXU
- Open the Datalogic X-Platform Utility (DXU) on your PC.
- Click on the image of the device you wish to upgrade.
3. Start Firmware Utility
- Click the Firmware Utility button.
- Click Browse and select the unzipped firmware file.
4. Begin the Upgrade
- Click Start Update.
- The progress bar will display “Uploading Firmware to Device”—this may take up to 10 minutes.
5. Completion
- Once the upload is complete, the device will automatically reboot.
- The progress bar will update to reflect completion.

Clean Boot Procedure
- Remove the main battery from the device.
- Press and hold the orange SCAN key on the front keypad.
- Press the reset button located in the battery compartment.
- Release the SCAN key.
- Insert the main battery.
- Immediately press and hold ESC + 0.
- Wait for the confirmation screen and select “Yes” to continue.
Important Notes
- Always unzip the firmware file before selecting it in DXU.
- Do not disconnect the device during the upload process.
- A clean boot ensures the firmware update is fully applied and the system starts fresh
